If your running pace throughout the entire half marathon is expected to be a 5, 6 or 7 minute mile throughout, you must start at 8 AM.
The Black Bear Half is 13.1 miles of mostly flat and paved path that runs along the beautiful Oklahawa Greenway in Hendersonville, North Carolina. With approximately 400 feet of elevation gain, road runners will LOVE this course that starts and ends at the beautiful, Jackson Park in Hendersonville, NC. The route starts at Jackson Park and runs by the Historic Train Depot, through the Revitalized Historic 7th Avenue District to the Oklawaha Greenway and back to the park. The course is an out-and-back, lollipop course with two stocked, water stations that will be utilized multiple times during the race. Runners will complete a portion of the Greenway loop twice making it very spectator friendly and exciting!

The Black Bear 8k presented by Morris powered by Optimum joins our most popular fall half marathon event, the Black Bear Half Marathon. The 8k course coincides with the Half Marathon course and will take place on the same city streets, park pathways and Oklawaha Greenway route. Enjoy the fall scenery without having to run a half marathon.
We will provide water and refreshments along the course. Gatorade, Water, Energy Gels and CLIF Bars will be provided. Each water station will have portajons with hand sanitizer nearby. Check course map for exact locations.
Water Station #1 – 7th Avenue/Greenway (Half Marathon: utilized 3x – mile 1.5, 6.5 and 12 and 8k – 2x on the course!) – will be utilized 2x in the 8k.
Water Station #2 – Balfour Rd/Greenway (Half Marathon: utilized 4x – mile 4, 4.3, 9, 9.3) – this station will not be utilized in the 8k.

All participants will receive a commemorative medal after the race! You’ll also have the option to add on a long-sleeve Brooks running shirt for just $5 if you register by September 18th at midnight. After that, the shirts will be available for $15 online. Unfortunately, shirt costs have risen dramatically over the last few months, which is why we can no longer offer them for free with registration. Virtual participants will receive a free shirt/medal in the mail as well.

PACKET PICK UP
Packet pickup will take place on Friday, October 7th from 12:00 - 2:00pm at Hunter Subaru (220 Hunter Airport Dr, Fletcher, NC 28732). We HIGHLY suggest that you come to this session if you can.
There will also be a packet pickup session on the morning of the race from 7:00 - 7:50 AM. The packet pickup session will take place at Jackson Park (near the start line).
For runners not able to attend in person, the virtual race is a good option to achieve a goal, and run the miles on your own, wherever and whenever you want. All virtual runners will receive a commemorative race shirt and finisher medal.
